Fernanda Romero to be Sentenced Today

25 Apr

A Mexican-born actress, Fernanda Romero who has admitted to lying to immigration authorities is due in court today for sentencing.

Federal prosecutors are not seeking any prison time for Romero, an actress who has had small parts in American films but is probably best known for her role in the Mexican soap opera “Eternamente Tuya.”

U.S. District Judge Manuel Real is also scheduled to sentence Romero’s husband, Kent Ross, who has admitted he lied about living with the actress.

The court was presented with evidence that the couple didn’t live together as they stated on immigration forms. They dated other people and essentially lived separate lives.

Federal prosecutors charged Romero and Ross in April 2010 with entering into a sham marriage so the actress could remain in the United States. A jury deadlocked on the case last year.

The pair eventually plead guilty, and entered a plea agreement that calls for probation but no jail time.
